Lesson Nov 11

I rode Mack in the indoor, because it was raining and getting dark out. He was SO GOOD! He went on the bit when we were trotting and his canter was all smooth and perfect. Jumping was great, too. We worked on really getting into the corners, and improved by the end of the lesson, but we got some icky distances to the jumps. Still, I think we’re getting better each time.

The videos showed that my equitation needs A LOT of work! I need to work on keeping my leg still over the jumps, bending my elbows, getting my shoulders back and not slumping when we canter. Here are some pictures from the lesson (video stills).

Lesson Oct 28

I had a great lesson on Wednesday. I rode Mack, and he was absolutely perfect. He got on the bit really nicely when we trotted and actually didn’t try to race around like a madman when we cantered! He jumped perfectly, to. We were in the indoor because it was raining, and probably won’t ride outside anymore because daylight savings time is on Sunday, and it will be dark out. :(

Lesson Oct 21

I rode Zippo and he was terrific! We did jumper courses with really tight turns and stuff, so that was fun even though we missed the jumps a couple times. Zippo was pretty excited to be doing something new so I think we both had a good time. I even tried an auto-release over one jump, which looked cool but didn’t do much because Zippo put his head down when we landed and I lost my balance and kinda threw the reins away.

I’ll try to get pictures up soon. I’m also working on a video of us, to the song Turn This World Around by Amy Grant. I’ve been really busy lately though so that won’t be up for a while.

My parents have decided to let me start riding twice a week in December. There are two spots open. There’s an advanced lesson with the instructor I have now, but (1) they jump up to 3ft, which I can’t do yet, and (2) there’s not a horse that I can ride that can take me there. Mack and Dakota are already taken in that lesson, and Zippo can’t go that high. My instructor said that she could get me up there if she had a horse for me to ride. My other (more likely) option is a lesson at my current level with a different instructor. I’d probably ride Dakota, and still switch off Mack and Zippo in my other lesson, but I don’t know.

I hope I can keep improving and get up to the advanced level someday, but it’s going to take a lot of work!

Lesson Oct 15

I rode Mack yesterday in my lesson, and he was really good! We didn’t lunge him before, but it turned out to be okay. When we trotted, I managed to get him into a nice frame! Cantering didn’t go so well, but after that we did a lot of jumping. The jumping was really fun, because we felt really in sync. We got good spots for most of the jumps and I managed to keep my legs still. It’s getting cold and after daylight savings, we’ll move to the indoor. Zippo is just learning how to jump. He’s a blast to ride. I’ve been riding him every other Wednesday. So far we have jumped up to about 2’3”. He’ll be ready to show by the summer, and I’m hoping to get to ride him then!
